Stop the badger cull coming to Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire Badgers need you

Nottinghamshire and Leicester, where we deliver our badger vaccination are two of the areas that the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) is considering for ten new badger cull zones this year. They are expected to make their announcement on where has been selected next month.

There is a real chance that Nottinghamshire could be included for the first time. If this happens the badger cull will begin next month.

This means we only have days to change the Government’s mind.

It is vital that we make sure that the badger cull is not extended into our county and the border with Leicestershire where we work closely with Leicestershrie & Rutland Wildlife Trust on badger vaccination.

Over the last five years, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust has been running a successful badger vaccination programme. We’ve been proving that there is a much more humane way to tackle bovine tuberculosis that is also much cheaper per badger than culling. The ultimate aim of the project has always been to stop the badger cull being extended into our area.

If we don’t manage to change the Government’s mind over the next few days then we could see the unnecessary  deaths of local badgers over the next few months. We will have failed to save them.
