When managed with wildlife in mind, farmland can be spaces where nature can thrive. Sadly, farmland wildlife has declined by 60% in the past fifty years. This is mostly due to intensive agricultural practises and a lack of support for farmers who want to do things differently. 

Farmers manage over two thirds of UK land. Imagine the positive impact that more nature-friendly farming could make for our wildlife! 

Pioneering farmers already play a crucial role in restoring nature and tackling climate change, alongside producing high quality food. These farmers are leading a revolution in the fields, and with their help nature is springing back. 

Nature needs more farmers to follow their lead. Our farmers cannot do this alone: the Government needs to help farmers to help nature.  

The Government's new farm support schemes could be the key to empowering farmers to do more for nature in England.  

However, the effectiveness of these schemes is at risk, and powerful lobby groups work hard to convince the Government to keep the status quo. More MPs need to understand that with genuinely ambitious, properly funded schemes, backed by effective policy changes, we could see: 

🦡 Habitat restored for iconic farmland wildlife like skylarks and hares to thrive  

💧 Protection against flooding and reduced water pollution  

🌳 More hedgerows and new woodlands tackling climate change

🚫 The use of harmful pesticides and fertilisers reduced

🥕 More sustainable and profitable food production at home
